The Estate
Location
Nestled between hills of olive groves and fields of sunflowers, the Agriturismo Lupo Vecchio is the perfect place to call home during your holiday. You can immerse yourself in peaceful countryside, spend days by the pool or at the nearby beaches, or visit sites steeped in history and culture. There are several quiet roads around Agriturismo Lupo Vecchio ideal for enthusiastic cyclists of every level (The Giro D'Italia route passed right outside the front door in 2015!).
Lupo Vecchio is located in Maremma, the southern region of Tuscany, on the Strada Del Vino di Monteregio (the wine trail). With views of Giuncarico and Vetulonia, two picturesque hilltop villages, Lupo Vecchio is surrounded by ample gardens within the farm producing wheat, sunflower, maize, tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil.
The sea is only 20 minutes away by car, towards Castiglione della Pescaia or Marina di Grosseto.

History
​
The Gherardi family bought the Farm Il Lupo in 1919 from the Morgans. The farm used to cover 500 hectares and included several smallholdings and farmhouses along the old Roman road (Aurelia Vecchia) in the Commune of Gavorrano. For many years, Il Lupo was the hub of the rural life in the area.
Currently, the farm is 130 hectares and produces olive oil, wheat, maize, sunflower and tomatoes. The property, now converted to agritourism, comprises the family villa, barn, stables, the farmhouse 'Lupo Vecchio', a unique, circular outdoor threshing floor, a rainwater cistern and an outside oven.
The farmhouse is from the mid 19th century, built in a traditional Tuscan style, characterised by a typical external frontal staircase. In years past it housed an olive press on the ground floor and a rural school on the second floor. Careful restoration in 2004 using traditional, local materials, has preserved the original architecture, while offering modern comforts with an eco-friendly approach.
The farm Il Lupo is still of great interest, not only for the architectural characteristics of the buildings, but also for the presence of old fashioned rural elements that testify to the importance of agriculture in this area. As a whole, Il Lupo still retains elements of a bygone era in the midst of a thriving farming community.
Today, the farmhouse accommodates eight apartments, each named after the original small holdings that comprised the estate of 'Il Lupo'.

Facilities
The Lupo Vecchio farmhouse comprises 8 individual self-catering apartments with 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms and a corresponding number of bathrooms. Each apartment has been restored with a high attention to detail to offer our guests a comfortable and relaxing stay.
All the floors are in tiled in terracotta, the kitchens have local marble counter tops and the bathrooms are tiled with traditional travertine. The ceilings retain most of the original exposed beams and bricks in the vaults. All apartments are provided with independent central heating and, on the second floor, with cooling fans.
We can add a bed for children up to 14 years old in each apartment. Additional cost €20 for the entire stay.

Well behaved pets are welcome. Extra cleaning fee €10 for each dog/cat.

Starlink Wi-Fi is provided in every apartment.
In addition to the reception area our guests can relax in a reading room or wander around a small museum of olive oil processing and antique farming implements. There is also an independently rent-able dining hall with open fire place and long farmhouse table seating 20 people, ideal for parties.
We offer also extra virgin olive oil tasting (by appointment).

​The gardens, swimming pool and activities
The farmhouse is surrounded by gardens planted with typical Mediterranean herbs and flowers. There is a large swimming pool, with gazebos and deck chairs for relaxing in the shade. There is plenty of space to play, and an area for alfresco dining with tables under the shade of pine trees, as well as a barbecue and a pergola. The vegetable patch, with tomatoes, basil, courgettes, etc. is available for guests to pick their own fresh ingredients to cook.
We can provide mountain bikes for individuals or organised groups.
There is a washing machine available for our guests and plenty of sunshine for drying the laundry!
